It's the old story. Girl meets boy. Girl loses boy. Zombies attack.
Q, a trainee kindergarten teacher and martial arts expert, wants to woo beautiful vegan, Rabbit, but doesn't know how. Her luck turns during the zombie outbreak. She teaches Rabbit and his hippie friends how to make war, not love, and does her best to save him from the living dead.
But can she defeat evil ex-girlfriend, Pious Kate? And can love survive the end of the world?
A Single Girl Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse edition by JT Clay Literature Fiction eBooks
Q, is an unlikely type to be a kindergarten teacher. She’s a zombieologist, martial artist and weapons expert who is preparing for a zombie apocalypse. Her life becomes both exciting and complicated when she falls in love with an aspiring musician who is also an animal rights lawyer. Without his phone number, Q is unable to call him and so she is forced to slump to cyber stalking and joining vegan and animal rights groups in order to find him. When she does inevitably find him, she is invited to join him and others on a vegan retreat in a remote location in the mountains. From the outset things do not go well. Q cannot relate to veganism and is constantly saying or doing the wrong thing, her want-to-be-boyfriend is still being courted by his Ex and Q is breaking all the rules of the retreat. However, when the zombie apocalypse occurs, Q’s skills become invaluable and maybe, just maybe she’ll be able to win over the man she’s fallen for.Even though some of the humour was lost on me I found this story to be side splittingly hilarious up until about the quarter way mark. This is the point where the zombie apocalypse becomes apparent. Whilst the author endeavoured to continue the humour, for me the jokes were a bit over the top and no longer funny; especially in the midst of horror scenes. Nevertheless, the book contains plenty of gory descriptions, action, suspense and sexual tension to be a page turner. For a zombie book, I found the plot to be almost plausible as long as you didn’t take it too seriously. In criticism, I disliked the abrupt end and epilogue sum up. I think the story could have handled another chapter or two. The sexual tension built up, but then failed to end in a way that I found satisfying and was thus a letdown. Despite this the book is well worth a read and would appeal to big kids like myself as well as teenagers. I am giving the book two and a half stars out of five.

A Single Girl Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse edition by JT Clay Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
It became evident early on that in order to give this book the credit it deserves I would need to embrace my inner weird.
Twenty-two year old Q is an odd duck. Her best friend, Hannah, is a six year old student in her kindergarten class. Mrs. Mason, her mentor is an evil dictator, paranoid someone is stealing items from her pigeonhole. Rabbit, a vegan hippie folk singer catches Q's eye when he comes to school and traumatizes children with his version of "New McDonald". Much like I was traumatized when I bought Skinny Bitch and thought it was a diet book. I guess graphically describing the process of how animals are slaughtered and all the gross things that occur along the way would cause someone to lose weight from sheer starvation.
Desperate to find Rabbit and form a love connection, Q cyber stalks him and joins an assortment of vegan groups in hopes of running into him. Her tenacity pays off and Q finds herself travelling in a hippie bus on a weekend retreat with Rabbit and his group, the Yowie's. The trip doesn't turn out to be the bliss Q envisions, because the zombie outbreak she's spent years prepping for has finally arrived. So caught up with her lust for Rabbit, Q missed all the signs of the apocalypse. Ever the proper prepper, Q makes sure to give Hannah a satellite hotphone to the two can stay in touch.
Q assigns fitting nicknames to her new "friends". Pious Kate, Rabbit's ex-girlfriend, lawyer-vegan extraordinaire hell bent on winning Rabbit back, and may or may not be infected. Along with Sheath of Power, the Scarlet Terror, Tinkabella, Princess Starla, and creepy old caretaker guy, Dave.
I don't see the allure of Rabbit. No amount of good looks could make me pine for a wimp. I'm all for women wearing the pants in the relationship but that doesn't mean I want to see the men in skirts. The idea of two women fighting for this man's affections is so outrageous that it's almost believable. The only thing I couldn't get fully on board with was the relationship between Q and Hannah. To be best friends with a six year old, not related to you, struck me as inappropriate.
A Single Girl's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is hilarious and kooky. This is definitely not your run of the mill zombie fiction. I fully recommend this book to readers, and look forward to seeing what JT Clay comes up with next.
I was surprised how much I liked this. And how much I hated it.
At first, I was the book's biggest fan. I've never read a zombie apocalypse novel that had me spending more time laughing my ass off than cowering under the sheets. I should have realized then I wasn't going to get the creepy, Halloween read I was looking forward to.
Q is a strange, paranoid girl, but fortunately, she's the girl you turn to during a zombie apocalypse. Pretty quickly I found out her best friend is a six year old kindergardener. Um... How... cute. And creepy. And a little sad.
I didn't love how slow the book was to get to the actual apocalypse, or the actual ZOMBIES. With a name like A SINGLE GIRL'S GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE you'd expect the action to start pretty quickly. Yeah... no. Nothing seem to start happening until around 36% to 50%, when the vegan's finally started realizing OMG people are turning into zombies.
Once the action did start rolling, everything was great, but... I hated Rabbit. Rabbit is the guy Q is pretty much in love with. She's in the trouble she's in because of her major crush on him (being trapped in the middle of nowhere with vegans, not the zombie outbreak), but for the life of me I can't figure out why. He's dense, oblivious, and risks Q's and everybody else's life for Zombie Kate, his EX girlfriend, who end the end, makes life rather difficult for him.
The plot was reasonably entertaining, the characters are what I had the most problems with. Even in the end, I didn't really get closure. The book overall just left me feeling... bereft. I don't think I will read this again. It's also doubtful that I'll ever pick up another book by this author. It was a hilarious read, but the romance, the horror... It just didn't click.

Funny, laugh out loud moments. Very good take on the Zombie Apocalypse and how it comes about. Plus who doesn't love a good game of gingers?
